Sources with knowledge of the situation describe this as among Amodei’s most significant efforts to improve relations with the current administration.

The scheduled discussion arrives as Anthropic gears up to introduce Mythos, its newest AI system. According to the company’s assessment, this model possesses cybersecurity capabilities that could potentially trigger significant digital infrastructure disruptions.

On April 7, Anthropic unveiled Mythos. The rollout follows a restricted distribution strategy dubbed “Project Glasswing,” which grants carefully vetted organizations preview access exclusively for protective cybersecurity applications.

Administration officials are reportedly paying close attention to what Mythos can accomplish. An insider familiar with ongoing discussions told Axios that preventing the U.S. government from utilizing the technological edge this model provides would be “grossly irresponsible,” particularly since such a decision would ultimately advantage China.

Bloomberg News disclosed Thursday that government officials are developing plans to deploy a customized Mythos version throughout significant federal agencies.

Jack Clark, who co-founded Anthropic, acknowledged Monday that conversations about Mythos with Trump administration officials have continued despite the Pentagon’s decision to sever its business relationship with the AI company.

Context of the Defense Department Conflict

Tensions between Anthropic and the administration have persisted for several months. The conflict originated from the Pentagon’s insistence that Anthropic permit its Claude AI systems to be deployed for “all lawful uses.”

Anthropic declined this demand, maintaining its position that specific safeguards against autonomous weapons deployment and large-scale surveillance operations were necessary. Following this refusal, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth characterized the company as a security threat, prompting President Trump to instruct federal agencies to terminate their Anthropic partnerships.
