Hong Kong Customs: Busts 219 kg Silver Smuggling Case

PANews reported on January 29 that, according to Hong Kong Customs, on January 27, Hong Kong Customs cracked a smuggling case using a private car at the Heung Yuen Wai Border Control Point, seizing approximately 219 kilograms of suspected smuggled silver, valued at approximately HK$6.1 million. Following investigation, Customs arrested a 46-year-old male driver and a 40-year-old male passenger, charging them with "attempting to export unmanifested goods." The case was heard in Fanling Magistrates' Courts on January 29. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense, punishable by a maximum fine of HK$2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
