Pam Bondi hit with contempt charges after 'illegally defying' Epstein subpoena

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have filed contempt charges against former Attorney General Pam Bondi after she failed to comply with a subpoena to give a deposition on the Trump administration's handling of the Epstein files.

On Wednesday, Oversight Committee ranking Democrat Robert Garcia (CA) said Bondi "illegally defied our committee, skipped her deposition, and refused to cooperate."

"Bondi has extensive personal knowledge about the Trump Administration's handling of the Epstein files, and regardless of her job title, her testimony and cooperation are crucial," he continued. "The survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's abuse deserve answers, and the American people deserve the truth."

"Oversight Democrats are taking the lead on holding Bondi in contempt because Chairman Comer is trying to run out the clock, and we refuse to let this Administration stop our investigation."

Republicans on the committee, however, are attempting to reschedule Bondi's deposition rather than hold her in contempt.

President Donald Trump's Department of Justice has argued that Bondi does not have to testify because she is no longer the Attorney General.
