Donald Trump Rules Out Pardon for Sam Bankman-Fried

US President Donald Trump reportedly has no plans to pardon former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), despite issuing a wave of clemency since returning to office.

In his first year back as President, Trump has granted hundreds of pardons and commutations. This includes several high-profile figures in the cryptocurrency industry.

Sam Bankman-Fried Is Not Getting a Presidential Pardon

In a recent interview with The New York Times, President Donald Trump made it clear that a presidential pardon for Bankman-Fried is unlikely. The President also referenced several prominent cases where he has no intention of granting a pardon.

This includes former New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Bankman-Fried received a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted on several counts of fraud and conspiracy tied to the collapse of the FTX exchange. Despite the conviction, efforts to secure clemency have continued.

In January, Bloomberg reported that his parents launched outreach efforts aimed at securing a pardon from Trump. The former FTX CEO renewed those efforts in February 2025 during his first interview from prison with The New York Sun.

Bankman-Fried has also filed an appeal seeking to overturn his 25-year sentence. For now, he is serving his sentence at a low-security prison near Los Angeles. SBF is eligible for release in October 2044.

Spotlight on Trump’s Crypto Pardons in 2025

While Bankman-Fried’s pardon hopes have been dashed, Trump has signaled openness to clemency in other crypto-related cases. The President recently said he would “look at” the case of Samourai Wallet CEO Keonne Rodriguez.

Notably, Trump has issued three high-profile crypto-related pardons in 2025:

  • Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, was pardoned in January 2025.
  • In March, Trump also pardoned the co-founders of BitMEX, Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed, as well as Gregory Dwyer, the former head of business development.
  • Lastly, the President’s October 2025 pardon cleared Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) of his 2023 conviction.

Zhao’s pardon drew substantial criticism from some industry executives as well as regulators. Seven Senate Democrats called for an investigation into the decision. Lawmakers, including Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, questioned whether Trump-backed World Liberty Financial and its reported ties to Binance played any role in the decision.

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
