Abracadabra Faces Third DeFi Exploit as Hackers Drain $1.7 Million

2025/10/06 01:51

TLDR

  • Abracadabra’s third exploit drains $1.7 million, exploiting smart contract flaws.
  • Hackers laundered stolen funds via Tornado Cash after attacking Abracadabra.
  • Abracadabra pauses contracts to limit further losses from the latest breach.
  • Abracadabra’s prior hacks in 2024 and 2025 led to $19.5 million in losses.

Abracadabra, a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol, has fallen victim to its third major exploit. Hackers drained approximately $1.7 million from the platform, marking another setback for the project. The breach was first identified by blockchain security firm Go Security on October 4, 2025. This attack follows previous incidents in which the platform lost millions, raising concerns over its security measures.

How the Attack Unfolded

On October 4, Go Security reported the latest breach, revealing that hackers managed to exploit a vulnerability in Abracadabra’s smart contract. The attackers manipulated the platform’s contract variables, allowing them to bypass a solvency check. This exploitation let them borrow assets beyond the intended limit, resulting in a substantial loss for the protocol.

Weilin Li, a security researcher, confirmed the breach, explaining that the vulnerability occurred due to faulty logic in the smart contract. The attack took advantage of a sequence error within Abracadabra’s cook function, which is designed to execute multiple actions in a single transaction. According to Phalcon, another blockchain audit firm, the exploit occurred through two specific actions.

The first, called “action 5,” triggered a borrowing process intended to pass solvency checks. The second, labeled “action 0,” bypassed the validation step by overriding the check flag. The attackers repeated this process across six different addresses, stealing over 1.79 million MIM tokens in the process.

The Response from Abracadabra’s Team

Following the exploit, Abracadabra’s team quickly acted to prevent further damage. They paused all contracts on the platform to limit additional losses. At the time of reporting, the hacker’s wallet contained around 344 ETH, worth roughly $1.55 million, though the stolen funds had already been partially laundered through Tornado Cash.

Go Security noted that the Abracadabra team confirmed on Discord that it would use its DAO reserve funds to repurchase the affected MIM tokens. However, as of October 5, the official social media channels of Abracadabra, including its X account, remained silent on the incident. This lack of communication has raised concerns about the project’s ongoing transparency.

Previous Exploits Raise Concerns

This breach is not the first time Abracadabra has been targeted by attackers. In January 2024, the platform suffered a hack that resulted in a $6.49 million loss and briefly caused the MIM stablecoin to depeg from the US dollar. A second exploit in March 2025 drained an additional $13 million from Abracadabra’s cauldron contracts, leading the team to offer the hacker a 20% bounty in exchange for the stolen funds.

The recurrence of such breaches in a relatively short period has prompted ongoing questions about the security of the platform. Despite the team’s efforts to address vulnerabilities, these repeated attacks have damaged the project’s reputation and raised concerns about the sustainability of its cross-chain lending system.

The Future of Abracadabra’s Security

As the third exploit adds to the growing list of security issues, the DeFi space is left questioning how Abracadabra plans to strengthen its protocols moving forward. While the team’s response to the current exploit appears swift, it remains to be seen whether these actions will be enough to restore user trust and prevent further breaches.

The continued challenges faced by Abracadabra highlight the importance of robust security measures in the rapidly evolving DeFi sector. For now, the platform’s future security strategy will likely remain under scrutiny as both developers and users await clearer answers from the project’s team.

The post ChatGPT Identifies the Next 100x Crypto of 2025, Solana (SOL) and Ripple (XRP) Bulls Already Buying appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. ChatGPT has flagged Little Pepe (LILPEPE) as one of the best cryptos to watch in 2025, predicting that the Layer 2 meme chain could deliver 100x returns before 2026. The call has sparked fresh momentum in the project’s presale, with Solana and Ripple investors already rotating into $LILPEPE. This year, Solana has enjoyed an institutional wave, driven by ETF speculation and ecosystem expansion. However, trapped at $200 with a 15% weekly loss, many analysts believe the upside is capped compared to younger projects. Traders chasing high multiples are now looking further down the market. Solana Price Chart | Source: CoinGecko Ripple faces a similar challenge. XRP has held key support levels around $2.67; however, regulatory delays, ETF decisions, and whale-driven sell-offs have clouded its growth. The token’s 2017 rally of 35,000% remains legendary, but few expect a repeat as competition in cross-border payments grows. Investors realize that the next significant returns may not come from established giants. SOL and XRP remain strong long-term plays, yet their size makes a 100x move almost impossible. That’s why capital flows into presales where exponential upside is still on the table. Little Pepe’s presale is emerging as the go-to destination. Its fresh concept, rapid fundraising, and strong community buzz make it a favorite among those who want Solana- and Ripple-level narratives at a fraction of the cost. Little Pepe Presale Soars Above $26M Amid Massive Buy Interest The numbers tell the story. The Little Pepe presale has already raised over $26,34 million, selling over 16.1 billion tokens across 13 stages. With each stage selling out quickly, buyers are rushing to secure positions before the final listing price of $0.003. At just $0.0022 in Stage 13, $LILPEPE is still trading at less than a tenth of a cent compared to Solana or Ripple. Early entrants…

Ripple, DBS, Franklin Templeton Unveil RLUSD DeFi Integration

The post Ripple, DBS, Franklin Templeton Unveil RLUSD DeFi Integration appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Ripple partners with DBS and Franklin Templeton to launch RLUSD-backed trading and lending solutions for institutional investors.   Ripple has teamed up with DBS and Franklin Templeton to launch a new trading and lending platform powered by Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin. This collaboration aims to create a more efficient financial ecosystem for institutional investors.  Through this partnership, clients can now use RLUSD and tokenized money market funds to manage portfolios and access liquidity in real-time. New Partnership Brings Real-Time Trading and Lending Solutions In a recent press release, Ripple revealed a partnership with DBS and Franklin Templeton, set to bring innovative trading and lending solutions to the financial market.  The partnership involves the listing of Franklin Templeton’s tokenized money market product, sgBENJI. Additionally, it is alongside Ripple’s RLUSD on the DBS Digital Exchange (DDEx).  This offers institutional clients the ability to trade between RLUSD and yield-bearing tokens in real-time. Besides, it also enables easy portfolio rebalancing, allowing clients to earn returns during market fluctuations. The collaboration also explores lending opportunities where clients can pledge sgBENJI tokens as collateral to access liquidity. DBS will serve as the custodian for these pledged assets and facilitate repos and credit lines through the bank or third-party platforms. RLUSD Stablecoin Enhances Portfolio Management Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin plays a central role in this collaboration, providing investors with a solution for managing volatility while earning yields.  By using RLUSD, clients can easily switch between stable, cash-like holdings and yield-generating products. This provides a way to mitigate risk and enhance returns, particularly in volatile market conditions. Franklin Templeton’s decision to issue sgBENJI on the XRP Ledger further boosts the project’s credibility. The XRP Ledger’s high throughput, low costs, and reliability make it an ideal platform for issuing tokenized securities.  This move also enhances the interoperability of digital securities, helping…
